Strawberry Stitch Tutorial

I have seen  on You Tube at least two designers showing the stitches using Tunisian crochet technique. The one I am about to show you is using tapestry crochet technique in which one or more yarns are carried on top of the previous row and inside the working stitches. To learn more about tapestry crochet read it in here. If you prefer to download the instructions in pdf you can do so here and to watch the videos a friend of  mine at Lyn's Craftt has created, just follow the links below.

Note: Traditional tapestry crochet technique is used in this pattern. Crochet the next several stitches as usual, with colors not in use laid flat inside your stitches. You should not be able to see  these colors in your work at this point. This is known as carrying the unused color  to achieve a neat final piece.
Weave in loose ends as work progresses.

The Pattern

Starting with the green cotton ch 19. Increase  or decrease in multiple of 4 ch sts at this point to make a wider swatch

Row 1 . Insert hook to the third ch from hook, dc 2. *{pull red cotton while there are still  2 loops on hook, dc 5 in the next same st.  Remove hook from last loop and insert the hook from the first dc and pass through the last loop. Pull green cotton through the last and first loops, chain 1 to secure the stiches (you’ve just created a bobble stitch which will form the berry.  Sc together all the five dcs to create strawberry petals, ch 1 to secure the stitches.  Dc in next 3 sts}.  Repeat from * till the last chain ending with 3dc in green color (4 strawberries and 4 3-dc spaces), turn.
Row 2 Ch 1, sc in dcs of the previous row including the stiches on the petals. (16 scs)
Row 3-4 Repeat row 2 - 3.
Fasten off.
